2011 Freudig Singers Choral Composition Competition

The Freudig Singers of Western New York hosted the 3rd Annual International Choral Composition Competition, featuring unpublished works of talented composers from around the world. The juried selection committee reviewed 54 submissions this year representing 4 continents, 8 countries and 13 states. The finalists were featured in a performance at Buffalo Seminary on Bidwell Parkway in Buffalo on Saturday, October 27.

This was the premiere of my choral suite, “An Adirondack Day”, performed in Oct. 2011 by the Freudig Singers, Roland Martin, conductor. This suite is a setting of poems by Nadine McLaughlin.  The piece was a finalist and received one of four honorable mention honors.

Jubilate Deo

jubiHere is a joyful, artistic setting of the Jubilate Deo text, featuring quickly-moving melismatic vocal lines and a dance-like piano accompaniment. In ABA form, with a contrasting center section.

Gloria A Dios

gloriaMy good friend, and sometimes collaborator, James Green and I have tried to put a new spin on a traditional text.  This Gloria set to a Spanish text and given an idiomatic stylistic flavor that will be extremely attractive to students and audience alike. The addition of hand held percussion instruments really provide energy.
